Knox City Church of Christ History

Searching for a Preacher

The Church of Christ is seeking a full-time or part-time preacher. We are looking for a man who is interested in working with us as we strive to live according to the example we are given in the New Testament. We know that the Bible is the inspired word of God and we are to live by it. We are committed to going forth and spreading the gospel throughout the world, even here in our own community.

Knox City is a small rural town located about seventy miles from both Abilene and Wichita Falls, TX. This small town is known for its friendly people and relaxing atmosphere. It is a perfect place to raise a family or retire. Knox city may be small, but it still offers various restaurants, small shops, a grocery store, hospital and clinic, and its own fire department. While farming and oil field employees are the majority of Knox City residents, many other employment opportunities are available. Community activities such as the Annual Watermelon Festival provides residents the opportunity to come together and build lasting friendships with each other. Christmas in November is another time when the shops on Main Street open up one evening and display their Christmas decorations. Santa Claus is even on hand to greet the children.

The small school offers children the opportunity to participate in sports, band, FFA, and many other activities. Football on Friday night is a staple in any Texas town and the 6-man football team offers exciting entertainment throughout the fall. The school also offers girls volleyball during this time. Basketball, baseball and track are offered during the spring semester as well as One Act Plays. Students also have the opportunity to be in the band. Knox City’s band has been successful throughout the years and competes each year in marching festivals and UIL concerts. The band also performs a Christmas and spring concert for the public. The small school also provides excellent teacher-student relationships from pre-K through their senior year. The school also offers a music program for elementary students and provides a Christmas program and spring program. They can also sign up for summer baseball and little dribblers. Knox City also has a wonderful city park with playground equipment and a pool during the summer.

Knox City is also a wonderful place to retire. Many people, who have moved off, return to Knox City to spend their retirement years. Unlike the big cities, Knox City shuts down at night providing nice, quite neighborhoods. Hunting and fishing opportunities are abundant in the area. Miller Creek Reservoir is located about 25 miles from Knox City and provides excellent bass and cat-fishing. There is also a 9-hole golf course located just outside of town.

The Church in Knox City shares the same “friendly” atmosphere which is seen throughout the community. While it may be small in numbers, the quality of members is above average. The Church offers opportunities for families to become involved using the talents that God has given us. Sunday morning Bible classes are offered for children to teach them the importance of God’s word. Our last Sunday fellowship meal allows us the chance to fill our stomachs and build our relationships. Our Wednesday night service gives us the opportunities to pause in the middle of our week and come together to study and worship God. The last Wednesday night of the month is “singing night” where we spend our time singing our favorite songs or learning new songs.
